Pizza Sandwich



If you're a pizza person and a sandwich fan, you're going to love this one! I've seen the a few times on instagram and I just new I wanted to re-create it!

This meal is totally customizable as an original pizza would be and it has the convenience of a sandwich! I chose to top wtih a marinara, pesto, fried pepperoni, crispy bacon, fresh mozzarella and some marinated tomatoes. Pairing with a homemade basil garlic pizza dough it sends your tastebuds soaring!










Serves: 4 Pizza Sandwiches


Ingredients:

Pizza Dough:

  • 4-4 1/3 cups all-purpose flour OR bread flour divided

  • 2 packet instant yeast² (2 ¼ teaspoon)

  • 3 teaspoons sugar

  • 1 1/2 teaspoon salt

  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

  • 1/2 dried basil leaves

  • 4 Tablespoons olive oil + additional

  • 1 1/2 cup warm water Pizza Dough Directions:

  1. Combine 2 cups of flour, instant yeast, sugar, and salt in a large bowl. If desired, add garlic powder and dried basil at this point as well.

  2. Add olive oil and warm water and use a wooden spoon to stir well very well.

  3. Gradually add other 2 cups of flour. Add any additional flour as needed. Stirring until the dough is forming into a cohesive, elastic ball and is beginning to pull away from the sides of the bowl. The dough will still be slightly sticky but still should be manageable with your hands.

  4. Drizzle a separate, large, clean bowl generously with olive oil. Place dough in clean bowl with olive oil and cover with towel or plastic wrap and let rest for about 30 minutes or until the dough has doubled in size.

Sandwich Ingredients:

  • 1 lb Sliced Pepperoni

  • 8 slices crispy bacon

  • 5 oz jar pesto

  • marinara sauce

  • 1 lb block fresh mozzarella, sliced

  • 1-2 roma tomatoes, sliced

  • olive oil

  • 1 tsp fresh basil

  • 1 tsp oregano

  • salt and pepper to taste

Directions:

  1. Prepare dough. Preheat oven to 450 degrees. Lay dough out on floured surface. Cut dough into 4 equal pieces. Roll pieces out into 1/2 inch circles. Rub with olive oil and fold in half, the dough will be half moon shaped. Then place onto a baking pan and rub top of them with more olive oil. Bake in the oven for 10-12 minutes or until the top is browning.

  2. While they are baking prepare marinated tomatoes. In a bowl add tomatoes, fresh basil, oregano, salt and pepper to taste and 1/3 cup olive oil. Mix and set aside.

  3. Remove bread from oven and open. Add pesto to one side and marinara to the other. Then add fresh mozzarella, pepperoni, bacon, and tomatoes. Top with more salt and pepper and enjoy!
